Why MultiCam® Matters: The Story Behind the Unit 67’s Authentic Camouflage and Matte Clearcoat Finish

By Staff Writer - December 2, 2025

INTRODUCTION

On the surface, camouflage may look like a pattern. But to those who’ve served — to those who trained in it, lived in it, and trusted it — MultiCam® is more than colors on fabric.

It’s identity.
It’s memory.
It’s purpose.

With the UNIT 67 Veteran Motorcycle Helmet, Super Seer wasn’t interested in “camo-inspired graphics” or fashion prints. We set out to create a helmet finish that carries real meaning — one worthy of the people who know what MultiCam represents.

To achieve that, every Unit 67 shell is hydro dipped in authentic MultiCam®, then sealed under a premium matte clearcoat to protect the pattern, enhance durability, and honor the legacy it stands for.

This is the story behind that finish — how it’s made, why it matters, and what sets it apart from anything else on the road.

Why MultiCam® — And Why It Matters

MultiCam® isn’t just camouflage. It’s one of the most recognizable and widely deployed camo patterns used by U.S. military forces over the last two decades.

Designed for adaptability in multiple environments — arid, wooded, urban, transitional — MultiCam® earned its reputation not through marketing, but through real-world performance.

For veterans and active-duty riders:

MultiCam® is familiar. It represents time in service, shared experience, and the brotherhood and sisterhood of the uniform.

For Super Seer:

It allowed us to create a motorcycle helmet finish that honors service without imitation — using the exact pattern riders recognize, not an imitation printed graphic.

The Hydro Dipping Process — Precision, Not Printing

Most helmets with “camo graphics” use one of two techniques:

  • Cheap vinyl decals

  • Printed graphic films applied like stickers

We do neither.

Every UNIT 67 is hydro dipped, a process that floats a film of authentic MultiCam® ink on water and transfers it onto the helmet shell through controlled immersion. This process:

  • Wraps the pattern perfectly around compound curves

  • Avoids seams, bubbles, or graphic distortion

  • Maintains the integrity of the real MultiCam design

  • Ensures no two helmets are exactly alike — each UNIT 67 has a unique pattern flow

Hydro dipping requires trained craftsmanship, not automated machinery. Each shell must be aligned, dipped, washed, dried, inspected, and prepped by hand.

Authenticity in Every Detail

Because MultiCam is a real tactical pattern used in active duty, we treat it with the same respect we treat our law-enforcement and military customers.

That’s why we:

  • Use official MultiCam® hydrographic film

  • Follow correct regional orientation of the pattern

  • Maintain proper color fidelity under the matte clearcoat

  • Perform individual quality checks on every part of the pattern wrap

If a helmet doesn’t meet our standard, it doesn’t become a UNIT 67.

Sealed With Purpose — The Matte Clearcoat Finish

After dipping, the helmet receives a durable matte clearcoat, which serves multiple purposes:

Protects the MultiCam graphic from wear

Resists UV fading, scratches, abrasions, and everyday riding exposure.

Reduces glare

A glossy finish doesn’t belong on a tactical-inspired helmet. Matte creates the proper subdued, military-correct look and enhances rider visibility in harsh sunlight.

Improves texture and feel

The clearcoat adds a tactile quality that feels premium and rugged — never plasticky or cheap.

Adds durability for long-term use

Super Seer helmets are built for years of service. The matte coat contributes to that longevity, performance, and professional aesthetic.

Designed for Those Who Served — and Those Who Still Do

The MultiCam finish is more than an aesthetic decision. It aligns with the identity of riders who have:

  • Served in uniform

  • Stood watches

  • Patrolled streets

  • Protected communities

  • Carried their values beyond the military

  • Transitioned from service to civilian roads

  • Joined motor units and elite riding teams

For those riders, the UNIT 67 helmet is not camouflage for fashion — it’s camouflage for meaning.

Built on American Craftsmanship Since 1967

Every UNIT 67 helmet — from shell layup to dipping to clearcoat — is crafted in Colorado by the same American hands that build helmets for:

  • Police motor units

  • State patrol agencies

  • Mounted units

  • Corrections teams

  • Tactical divisions across the country

Authentic MultiCam.
Real craftsmanship.
American-made heritage.
This is the Super Seer way.
